Consumer acceptance 

Consumers perceive compressed gum as an innovative and credible way of absorbing active ingredients.

Qualitative studies from 2007 conducted by AC-Nielsen on Gumlink’s behalf documented a highly positive consumer response to dual-layered compressed chewing gum:

  • Dual-layered compressed gum has high credibility, due to its tablet-like format
  • Consumers perceive dual layer technology as signalling a more ‘serious’ type of chewing gum than conventional tablet/pellet gum
  • Consumers consider it ‘logical’ that a chewing gum in this form should have health benefits.
  • Consumers express appreciation of the mint-gum combination, calling it ‘innovative’. Chewing gum caters to the growing trend for convenience. A pack of chewing gum is a small and very light product, which makes it very easy to carry on the go.
