Certification of procedures and production facilities
Gumlink is certified to the highest international standards with an ISO9001 certification as well as an IFS (International food standard) and BRC (British Retail Consumption) certification.
Quality policy
Gumlink's quality policy encompasses all areas, from research and development to purchase of raw materials, production, logistics and customer relations. This ensures that products fully live up to customer needs and expectations, that the products meet legal requirements with regard to content, weight, traceability and labelling, and that the raw materials and primary packaging are approved for food use. We also ensure that our suppliers utilise approved quality assurance systems.
Another feature of Gumlink’s commitment to quality is the state-of-art machinery used, ensuring that our chewing gum products are the best in their class.
Testing and checking of finished products
Certain aspects of finished products must be tested thoroughly, and the following provide good examples of how Gumlink manages this task.
Shelf-life is determined on the basis of a 12-month stability test plus a visual assessment of the chewing gum. Shelf life may in some instances be restricted by the formula of the product; for example, Multivitamin products have a shorter shelf-life than Calcium + Vitamin D.
In order to guarantee that all of the active ingredients are released, we measure their release. In vivo or in vitro methods are used, depending on the active ingredient (in vitro testing is not suitable for fat-soluble ingredients). After chewing, the gum is analysed for active ingredient content. Our standard chewing test is 20 minutes, though 2½- and 10-minute tests are also available if needed. If release is found to be below 100%, we simply add a higher dose to compensate. This system is on par with the European Pharmacopoiea testing procedure (section 2.9.25).
